The Household recorded

On-line

The library subscribes to Ancestry Library (a service of Ancestry.com). The site containing not only UK census records from 1841 to 1901, but also a wealth of family history resords from the UK, Europe and beyond.

Access to Ancestry Library is available from all libraries in Gateshead and from Gateshead Heritage @ St. Mary’s, but is not currently available from home.

As microfilm or microfiche

Copies of the census enumerators’ record books from 1841-1901 are also available on microfilm or microfiche. Indexes to individual streets have been compiled, but this more traditional method of census searching does not have the facility of searching by name.

Remember that to view our films or fiches you will need access to readers. Please check availability before visiting.
