Gateshead Heritage @ St. Mary's

A restored Grade I listed building, St Mary's is a wonderful attraction in its own right, as well as a useful resource centre for local residents and visitors to the region. A wide range of activities and events are held here including lunchtime concerts, family history surgeries, tours, craft fairs, educational visits and fun activities during the school holidays.  To view our full programme of events please click here.

Family and Local History materials located at St Mary's focus on those relating to Gateshead’s oldest Church. This was the original parish church for the town and the venue of all Church of England burials before 1811, and all baptisms and marriages before 1825. We offer regular Family History Surgeries - an especially useful service for family historians stuck with tracing an ancestor.  Please note that while we're happy to help with your enquiries we are unable to undertake in depth research.
