Buses that stop outside the library are the 52 from Gateshead Interchange, the 51 to Gateshead Interchange (called ’the Orbit’ service); and the 187. The 21 & 24 stop on Old Durham Road (parallel to Prince Consort Road) and 53 and 54 stop on Coatsworth Road. All buses travel regularly from Gateshead Interchange or from Newcastle upon Tyne city centre. On foot from Gateshead Metro:
Exit onto West Street. Turn right and walk up to cross the pedestrian crossing opposite the Civic Centre. Go straight over the traffic lights and continue, keeping the Civic Centre on your right-hand side. Continue and turn right onto Arthur Street immediately after the Civic Centre. Continue to the end of Arthur Street and turn left to cross the pedestrian crossing and join Prince Consort Road. Continue up Prince Consort Road to reach the Library, which is situated at the junction with Shipcote Lane, adjacent to the Leisure Centre. A pedestrian crossing is situated outside the Library. This walk takes about twenty minutes.
The library has a large, free public car park with a combination of long and short-stay spaces. There are also short-stay parking bays on Shipcote Lane. For help with directions please telephone our Tourist Information Centre on 0191 433 8420.
